Hand-Holding a Client
Updated: Sep 15, 2025
I groaned as I exited the plane seat and reached up to grab my carry-on. I hadn’t wanted to be on this trip. My boss had come into my office this morning, telling me that the planning director for one of our clients wanted an on-site meeting tomorrow morning. As an architect, I had designed the new facility for their company, and he had some issues he wanted to discuss at the construction site. My boss thought it would be good for me to go and do some hand-holding with the client to ease any concerns they might have. The office had booked me a flight from Atlanta to St. Louis, where the project was located. I flew out this afternoon, and now I was de-boarding the plane in St. Louis, frustrated at this interruption to my regular schedule of work, gym, and home, even though I had no real plans for the evening.
